‌Nickel Nameplate Miniaturization Drives Microelectronics Industry Advancement

In microelectronics like chip packaging, micro-sensors, and medical implants, traditional labeling faces precision and durability limits. Nickel nameplates, enabled by micro-nano fabrication breakthroughs, are becoming micron-level identification solutions for next-gen precision industries.

For semiconductor wafers, 12-inch wafers require over 2,000 traceability codes. Focused ion beam (FIB) engraving of 50nm-linewidth QR codes on nickel plates withstands plasma cleaning 30x better than laser marking, eliminating heat-affected zones. TSMC’s 3nm production lines now use this technology, boosting wafer data retention from 87% to 99.9%.

In biomedicine, degradable nickel-magnesium alloy nameplates offer new possibilities. With 5%-7% magnesium content, plates degrade within 6-8 months while maintaining visibility during implantation. A pacemaker manufacturer uses 0.05mm nickel-magnesium tags on electrode contacts, enabling surgical precision without secondary removal surgeries, reducing patient complications by 40%.
